MOTHERS AND SONS by Terrence McNally March 2016

“The scenes in which Brown and Nance share the stage without their co-stars are mesmerizing.”- David-Elijah Nahmod, SF Weekly

“The hit of the piece is Nance’s Cal, whom anyone would be glad to marry. Cal is polite, respectful, thoughtful, and caring: the perfect gay husband. We believe in him from the start, when he avoids confronting Katherine’s icy retorts.” -Theatre Storm, Barry David Horowitz

“Director Arturo Catricala deftly guides the production through its emotional twists, turns, and roundabouts. There isn't much to be done when Cal goes into monologue mode when talking about AIDS, except to make sure the actor playing Cal does so with a conviction rooted in character. Andrew Nance is successful in this challenge, as he is throughout the play, holding his own against Katherine.” - BAR, Richard Dodds

“Andrew Nance deserves praise for his hyper-speaking and bouncing with energy Cal but also for his ability to allow Cal’s combined pain, sorrow, and even bitterness to come through naturally and believably.” -Eddie Reynolds, Theatre Eddys

YELLOW by Del Shores, 2014

“There are reviewer's cliches that have been so overworked that they now read as punchlines. "Run, don't walk" is one of them, and "If you see just one show this year" is also high on the list. But the topper must be "You'll laugh, you'll cry." I never thought I'd be starting a review with that topper, but those are the words that kept reverberating after seeing Yellow at New Conservatory Theatre Center. So, damn it all, here it is: You'll laugh, you'll cry. And I'll admit it. I did both.

Andrew Nance and Dana Zook play the parents with dreamy-eyed affection before they must tear out their hearts in scenes so wrenching that I briefly feared for the actors' abilities to arise from these depths.” -BAR, Richard Dodds March 2014

DOUBT by John Patrick Shanley, 2010

"Andrew Nance admirably plays Father Flynn"- BAR, Richard Dodds

"One of the TOP TEN productions of 2010!"- SF Bay Times, Tom Kelly

I AM MY OWN WIFE by Doug Wright, 2008

Andrew Nance and director Ed Decker have collaborated to create a formidable and compelling production of I Am My Own Wife. Nance creates a nuanced character who can be both lovably eccentric and maddeningly elliptic. With a simple shift in lighting, but no change from the costume of black smock, head scarf, and single strand of pearls, Nance snaps effectively into the numerous other characters, including a Texan who speaks German with a hilarious drawl, various threatening government agents, and, of course, the playwright himself.

Smoothly and sensitively staged by Decker, the production leaves it to the audience to decide if Charlotte von Mahlsdorf is a survivor worth celebrating. There is no doubt that she is a character worth chronicling, and at NCTC, the results are first-class. - BAR Richard Dodds, 2008

VIRGINS AND OTHER MYTHS ( Best Actor in a Solo Show- Bay Area Theater Critic Circle.)
